On his radio show today, our friend Dan Patrick(formerly of WTUE in Dayton)
said that Ohio State is not deserving of a National Title because of their schedule. He continued on and on that "we only beat Texas and UM and that he thinks UM would beat us on a neutral field". What a homer he is.

We also destroyed Iowa on the road when Iowa was actually playing good ball.

Since when does winning at home not count?

Buck09,
That is exactly what he was stating. We won by three. That is the home field advantage. Did he not watch the game and see that we gave UM 10 points on unforced TO's. Let's face it Datish had a horrific day.

What a homer he is.
I thought he grew up an OSU fan in Cincinnati? Who is he being a "homer" for?
He was on WVUD..not sure about WTUE.

The 42-39 score in the TSUN game was a fluke.Michigan wins turnover battle 3-0.Bad calls by refs led to 2 scores by Michigan. If a rematch were to occur I would predict 37-17 for the good guys.

Dan Patrick "wonders aloud" on the air quite a bit. Was this a topic or as a stream of thought kind of thing? I am curious as to a transcript of the topic, or the context of "how" he said this.

Dan intitled to say that, we have proved that we are the best in the country he can deal with it.

Dayton,
Growing up in Dayton it was the Pugh and Cowe(sp) on WTUE in the mornings
Dan Pugh changed his last to Patrick for obvious reasons, it was on FM dial like 96.7. Maybe 92.9.

Is Dan Patrick another one of those damn Hawaii fans who think they can beat Ohio State? Whatever it is, he's a moron. The media stinks. Always. They're wrong on politics, weather, sports, everything. If it wasn't for the games themselves being on TV, I'd consider cutting the cord.

His long-time presence on ESPN was a gift from God and its the only reason he has to be on the radio. He is of average talent and has a boring delivery. Cowherd runs circles around him as an entertainer and make no mistake, both he and Cowherd are simply there to generate an audience, not to be journalists.
I'm sure he spends about the same amount of time researching for his syndicated radio show as I did in writing this post...............none. Having said that, there is some truth to saying that we didn't play a schedule that turned out to be that tough when compared to that of Notre Dame, USC and some of the SEC schools. Texas went into a funk, we skipped Wiscy and Iowa, Michigan St. and Penn St. has uncharacteristically bad years. Nonetheless, by the time this season is over, we will have beaten three number two teams and there will be no more doubters.

Why do we get all worked up about anything someone from ESPiN says anyway??? Of course they're going to try to create "doubt" about the national title game -- their network doesn't have the broadcast rights to it!!! It's all about the almighty buck -- and I ain't talking about Brutus!!!

I have ESPN insider, so I listened to the show archive for Dan Patrick. First of all it was not Dan Patrick, but some guy filling in for him, and second it was all hypothetical and did not sound bad to me.

Dan Patrick peaked about 10 years ago. He's destined to become his generation's Beano Cook.

If the Buckeyes beat USC, then they will silence at least some of the critics..however, there will always be those who will disagree anyway..look at the way OSU posters devalued USC's AP championship a couple of season's ago.
This will continue until there is some tangible form of playoff.. it's the nature of the beast.

We can't dictate how good or deep the BigTen will be year to year. All we can do is to win the games we have scheduled. Having a game at Texas should be enough to offset any down year in Conference.

A playoff does not guarantee that there will not be controversy. Look at this year's 1_AA playoffs. A very good James Madison team had to travel to Youngstown and play YSU in an opening round game while a 4 loss Montana State team was permitted to host an opening round game. The James Madison people are still whining about this. We will undoubtedly see the same thing going on with a Div 1A playoff. There will always be a reason for some team to whine.

Patrick is a good guy, he justs likes to create a controversy occasionally.

It funny how all of these people are trying to question our schedule. The desperation to gain attention is getting ridiculous. Last time I checked we were the only #1 to play and beat two #2 teams. And we're going to do it a third time!

The analysis doesn't make sense to me. So he thinks TWO teams are more deserving than OSU? He thinks the team that deserves it is a team we have already beaten and haven't lost yet. I am pretty lost :confused
Dan's job is to get people to listen, even if it means talking nonsense! :)

Who cares what he thinks? He is just trying to get people to call his show to complain. He has a forum and he is using, that is all.

As an OSU journalism school grad (Class of 86) the first rule you are taught about the job of the media: to sell newspapers or (in radio) get listners to MAKE MONEY.
Must've been a slow news day at ESPN, and Patrick already knows OSU is in the NC game, so the debate is pointless. But what stirs the Buckeye masses more than some stupid, un-informed argument like this?
OSU doesn't make up the Big Ten schedule, the league does. I guarantee you, the teams with rather surprising years (Purdue 8-4 and 11-1 Wisky) in the league this year would have gotten smoked had the Buckeyes played them. And you can't underestimate the value of the victory over the Longhorns in Texas, where they had won like 18 straight home games and where the Buckeyes were still breaking in 9 new starters on "D." Sure they didn't finish as well as they hoped, but it was the only matchup of Top 5 teams all year (UM wasn't ranked that high when they killed ND).
I like Patrick, but he sounded like a moron here. Against scUM, had the Buckeyes not committed 3 turnovers (to UM's NONE) like they did last year in Ann Arbor, it wouldn't have been a close game.

guys it wasn't Dan Patrick. Doug Gottlieb the CBB analyst was the host yesterday. He doesn't even know what a football looks like.

I bet Ohio State's 2002 National Championship that that is not what OSU said the first rule of journalism is.
