View Full Version : Thoughts on going pro early?

It seems as if it has always been a given that Teddy will be departing after this season. As a selfish fan, of course I want him to stay one more year. But I most certainly understand any kid's decision to turn pro (especially one with his talent.) Is there any chance what so ever that we could be indulged by a fourth year?

I dunno... personally I'd love to see him stay just so he can work on being a better receiver. But I wanted Gamble to stay to be a better corner, and I guess that worked out for him in the end. I would have to think, however, that he's at the moment not a first rounder given some of the big name receivers this year. Perhaps that will factor into the final decision.

Pitt and Ginn would be my bets.

I don't know that Ted is ready for the NFL. Just at last years Fiesta Bowl they were saying he was just beginning to feel comfortable at the position.
He does have blazing speed but does he really know enough of the position to get free from NFL defenses?
I hope so. I would love for him to light the NFL up. I just think one more year may benefit him.

I too think that another year would do his receiving skills some good. However, just taking his talent level and instant impact on special teams should make him a first rounder and probably the second receiver taken behind Johnson

I think Ginn stays, I would like to think he would stick to his word and that he would stay all 4 years

probably the second receiver taken behind Johnson
ahead of Jarrett? Im not so sure about that.
I think Pitman HAS to go PRO. He is a late 1st early 2nd guy right now and Im not sure if he could do anything next year to change that. He could even fall if he loses Carries to Beanie

OSU has had as many early entries as anybody in the country! Yet the program carries on. I would love to have all of them back but am realistic enough to know its not going to happen. Ted Ginn, etc... would be missed but they might well be replaced by the next Ted Ginn, Troy Smith, Antonio Pittman, etc...

Ginn is gone, and Pittman is leaing that way.

Pittman and Ginn are gone but thats ok because Robo will move in and Hartline is a dandy player and who's gonna complain about seeing more of Beanie?

Jarrett is definately a better receiver at the moment but Ginn may jump him because of his returning abilities. I wouldn't be suprised either way.
Completely agree about Pittman though.

When did the NFL start drafting on stats instead of talent?
By pure talent Ginn is the best WR in the draft...
I belive both Jarrett ann Johnson have both come close to maxing out hteir respective talent levels...
Ginn has so so much growth potiental... If he runs a 4.19 to 4.25 he could be the number 2 to 5 pick regardless who comes out...
Why wouldn't he go to 7 years 40+ million?
Plus does Sr. Ginn retire a little early (since he will be set for life) to enjoy watching his son?

I agree. If he stay's he's going to be competing with Darren McFadden, Mike Hart, Ray Rice, Steve Slaton, etc where as this year he's likely to be in a position to be the 3-5 RB taken overall.

Hart is, McFadden is a Soph... Pittman is a second / Third round type... Which isnt a bad thing... I could see him end up in Cleveland, Oakland or the Jets... He reminds me alot of a lighter Curtis Martin... Plus the Jets just love them Buckeyes of late... LOL

Jarrett hasn't exactly been tearing it up this year. The fact that the coaches had to basically bench him to get him going isn't a good thing. I also would have concerns about his speed, Jarrett seems slow coming out of his breaks, and that is a very bad thing in the NFL. He can get away with it in college because he is bigger then most DBs, but in the NFL against top tier DBs you can't play that way.

I think Jarrett's problem is going to be his speed. No question he has the size that GM's love but does he have the rest of the package. Maybe another Mike Williams although he is still young and could possibly turn it around. Teddy has more upside and there is no question about that.

If we are fortunate to win the title then he should probably go pro. Even with a possible title, I don't know that Teddy is really ready for the NFL. One more year would do him wonders!!!

Ginn is gone I think. But I am really not sold on Pitman being gone. I understand that Pittman may go because of the less carries he may have. But I think the carries will be in Pittmans favor because of him being a senior leader and also be the proven leader of the offense.

I agree Ginn is definitely leaving this year. I think Pittman will stay around though.

I would love to see Ginn stay another year but i definitely understand him. If i knew i could go to the next level and make millions of dollars, i would too. It would be great for him to stay another year and polish his skills but i cant blame him if he leaves.

if your game is predicated on speed....leave as early as possible if you are going to be 2nd rd or hight IMO.

I don't like guys coming out early. They just never seem to be ready and usually get hurt.

Ginn is gone for academics. He will not have the grades/qualifications to make into his senior year. Ginn knew this and should have been in summer school last year. Pittman and Gonzo are back.

Agreed, I heard that Teddy is in trouble for this quarter. From a unconfirmed source I heard that if he needs to make grades this quarter to play in Glendale then do not count on him. Sounds like he has been planning on going pro for a while.
That being said, he is not even the best receiver on the team. He should not be going pro (unless he has to)
I believe Pittman could but will not go pro for no other reason except for that is what he said he will do.

Pittman's a 2nd or 3rd rounder, but you're right; his draft stock will not improve with another season.
